Born in Adicora, a town of about six streets on the peninsula of Paraguana
in the Caribbean Coast of Venezuela in South America, Dr.
Granadillo-Schwentker was raised listening to the waves of the ocean twenty
hours a day. She grew up in a predominatly African community, an
ambience plagued by musicians, artists, teachers, and healers helped her
realize her love for music, art, education and her natural curiosity toward
the ocult. As a performer herself, recording artist and composer, she grew up to
integrated music, art and spirituality into her work.
During her late teens and early twenties she started her training as Gestalt
Therapist at the Venezuelan Gestalt Institute along with receiving formal
education, and in 1980 she obtained her licensure in Counseling Psychology
from the Universidad Central de Venezuela (Venezuelan Central University) in
Caracas. In 1985 she graduated from John F. Kennedy with a Master in
Psychology with emphasis in Dance Movement Therapy. She continued with research
and teaching at the Venezuelan Bioenergetic Institute and Simon Bolivar
University in Caracas.
After meeting Dr. Eva Reich, Dr. Wilhelm Reich's daughter, who
incorporated spirituality and healing into her work, Dr.
Granadillo-Schwentker got inspired to relocate to the States in 1990 -- this
time to pursuit deeper training as a psychotherapist integrating Sacred
Movement into her practice.
And having trained as a Shaman in the Caribbeean Santeria and Toltec
Tradition as well, Dr. Granadillo-Schwentker began searching for answers
while exploring the work and approach developed around integration and
multiculturalism and its relationship with Transpersonal-Energy Psychology.
From this perspective Dr. Granadillo-Schwentker has done a considerable
amount of research in Shamanism, Movement - Expression, Energy Psychology
and Energy Medicine and its impact on the community. She
works at a Public Mental Health Clinic besides developing the Integral
Transformation Project where she helps with change and transitions using
an integral appoach.
Dr. Rosa Granadillo-Schwentker lives with her husband, Robert, with whom she
enjoys traveling to exotic places around the world. While at home they take
care of their four fishes and their pear tree.
